When can you bowl? The bowling season spans five months - from
Victoria Day weekend in May until Thanksgiving Day in October. We bowl on
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings beginning at 7:30 p.m. In addition, the
last Saturday of each month and holiday Mondays feature a “double header”- with
one game at 5:00 followed by a supper break and a second game.
What is the format for games? We play in teams of two, three or
four. Teams are made up each night from those present. Thus members are not
required to make a commitment to attend on a particular night. Technique,
strategy and etiquette are taught in coaching clinics for beginners and more
advanced players.
.
How is the game played? A game consists of a number of ends
(usually 12). Team members, in turn, roll their bowls towards the target – a
small white ball called the jack. The team with one or more bowls closest to the jack wins the “end,”
and the points from each end are added for the game score. The bowls are NOT
perfectly round - their bias causes them to curve- similar to in and out turns
in curling. The bowler must judge the curve required, choose the weight -
“draw” or “take-out,” and, as in golf, must also gauge
the speed and condition of the green. Thus several factors make the game
interesting and challenging.
Who can bowl? Anyone who likes being outdoors and enjoys fun,
competition and light exercise can join.
Ages 12 and up are welcome.
How much are the fees? Junior (under18) fees are $25.00;
adult fees are $60.00 for the first year and $85.00 for subsequent years. In
addition there is a $2.00 game fee to offset the cost of greens maintenance.
Bowls rental is 50 cents per evening. New bowlers and guests are entitled to
three free trial games.
What equipment is needed to start playing? Bowlers must wear flat-soled shoes.
Dress is casual, with “whites” being worn on special occasions.
Are there any social activities? Social events are held throughout
the year. On Fridays in the off-season we alternate between bridge afternoons
and games nights (euchre, bridge, scrabble). Community
members are welcome to play. Social Membership is $10.00 per year
