Time to say goodbye to the old Canadian Tire store at 403 Keele ... and hello to a summer of construction!
After many years - and many, many community meetings - the old Canadian Tire Store at 403–417 Keele will be demolished at last and replaced by a new residential development by Options for Homes, a developer specializing in affordable ownership options. Michel Labbé of Options for Homes has provided a list of the final variances that are going before the Toronto & East York Committee of Adjustment on November 7, 2007. He expects that, once the variances are approved, the demolition will take place in December or shortly after Christmas.
As of the end of October, Options for Homes reported that 460 units
had been sold (about 75% of the total available) and that a quarter
of those units had been sold to people living within a kilometre of
the site. The strong sales activity allows both phases of the development
- one at the top of Indian Grove and the other on Keele Street just
north of Dundas - to proceed within a compressed time frame, meaning
that nearby neighbours will only experience one dusty, noisy summer
instead of two. For more information on Options for Homes, see www.optionsforhomes.ca
